How we calculate your valuation

What is SDE and why does it matter?

SDE (Seller's Discretionary Earnings) is your net profit plus your own salary. It represents the total financial benefit a buyer receives. Most e-commerce acquisitions are priced as a multiple of SDE rather than revenue.

How is the multiple determined?

The base multiple depends on your SDE band. Larger, more profitable businesses command higher multiples. This is then adjusted up or down based on eight factors: revenue growth, traffic quality, customer retention, recurring revenue, business age, supplier diversification, owner dependency, and platform.

What multiple do Shopify stores sell for?

Most independent Shopify stores sell for 2x–6x SDE. Stores with strong organic traffic, high repeat rates, and low owner dependency regularly achieve 4x+. Paid-traffic-dependent stores or those with a single supplier typically land below 3x.

How accurate is this estimate?

This tool gives you a directionally accurate range based on publicly available acquisition data. Actual sale prices are influenced by buyer appetite, deal structure, exclusivity, and full due diligence. Use it as a starting benchmark, not a firm valuation.
